Wayne State University is a premier public, urban research university located in the heart of Detroit. Founded in 1868, Wayne State serves a diverse body of nearly 27,000 students through a broad array of nearly 350 academic programs.

Wayne State University’s main campus covers more than 250 acres in Detroit’s Midtown neighborhood and includes more than 100 buildings, totaling 11.7 million gross square feet.  The School of Medicine campus is adjacent to the Detroit Medical Center while TechTown, Wayne State’s 12-block, 43-acre research, and technology park, is located adjacent to the main campus. In addition, six student residence halls and apartment complexes house more than 3,100 students.

Wayne State has six satellite campuses: three in Macomb County, one each in Wayne and Oakland counties, and one in Jackson county. Wayne State’s academic offerings are divided among 13 schools and colleges: the Mike Ilitch School of Business; the College of Education; the College of Engineering; the College of Fine, Performing, and Communication Arts; the Graduate School; the Law School; the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences; the School of Information Sciences; the School of Medicine; the College of Nursing; the Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences; the Irvin D. Reid Honors College; and the School of Social Work.

Graduate students can major in many areas, including those offered by the schools of business, law, and medicine. Wayne State likewise excels exceptionally in its health programs of midwifery, anesthesia, and pharmacy. Students at Wayne State conduct research, including the school’s partnership with Michigan State University and the University of Michigan, through which the schools cooperatively research and develop to help the state’s economy. Outside the study hall, Wayne State students can get involved by exploring more than 200 campus organizations or by visiting the museums, concert halls, and professional sports venues of Detroit. Researchers at Wayne State University are examining metabolic abnormalities that are associated with cardiovascular infections, diabetes, and numerous different issues. The Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) welcomes students from various disciplines across the university, hard sciences, social sciences, performing arts, and humanities to participate in undergraduate research. Undergrad research tries to implement theory into practice at projects and is delivered by full-time faculty who are pioneers in their field. Through a program that is both academically thorough and socially connected with, the Irvin D. Reid Honors College prepares Wayne State’s most noteworthy, accomplishing students to be leaders in the local community and the world beyond.

The internship program gives students the chance to pick up work experience in their career fields. These changes allow students to realize what sort of work culture they like if they’re in the right field. Internships provide temporary work opportunities that could possibly identify with the student’s interest, academic major, and/or career goals. These assignments involve paid, meaningful work, provide hands-on experiential learning, and can potentially lead to future career opportunities.

Wayne State University offers a wide range of merit scholarships to new students.
