Trine University was established in 1884 as Tri-State Normal College and got its current name in 2008. It was done to honor Drs. Ralph and Sheri Trine who were trustees of the university.
Trine University is committed to excellence and has been maintaining its standards for more than 135 years. The U.S. News & World Report has ranked the institute among the Midwest’s best universities consistently. There are both graduate and undergraduate programs. It has 5 schools and a college under its wings, namely Allen School of Engineering and Computing, Franks School of Education, Jannen School of Arts and Science, Ketner School of Business, Rinker-Ross School of Health Sciences, and College of Graduate and Professional Studies.
Trine University is located in Angola, Indiana, and boasts of a 450-acre main campus that has everything students would need. There are residence halls and campus housing apartments that have a unique design that makes them look, unlike any regular dorm room. There are dining commons and other meal options within the campus. It is one of the few institutes with a championship golf course that has hosted NCAA national championships and PGA events.
Trine has more than 60 clubs and student organizations, as well as eight fraternities and five sororities for students to join and find like-minded people. The city of Angola is a peaceful area with ample opportunities for entertainment. There are restaurants, pubs, parks, and cafes that will keep students entertained when they are not in class.
The university has an enrolment of 4,646 students and in 2019, it saw a 99.4% employment rate with students either working or in graduate school in six months from their graduation. It boasts of a student to faculty ratio of 17:1 and an average class size of 19.8 students. Since 2000, the university has spent more than $155 million in improving the campus. It has been accredited by Higher Learning Commission, Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP), and Department of Education/Office of Educator Licensing and Development (DOE/OELD).
Over the years, there have been many notable personalities who are excelling in their particular fields and have been associated with Trine University. Ralph Ketner was the co-founder of Food Town, a 1,300-store grocery chain while Isabelle French was the National President of the Society of Women Engineers from 1964-66. Rupa Shanmugam is the president and COO of SoPark Corporation in the state of New York. Some of the other notable personalities include Jerry L. Allen who received an honorary doctorate in 1998 and the Pillar of Success Award in 2003. Karen Austin is the senior vice president at Pacific Gas and Electric Company.
