Western Connecticut State University is a public university situated in Danbury, Connecticut, the United States. Established in the year 1903, it renders both full-time and part-time courses to potential students.
This university was formerly a part of the Connecticut State University. It houses four academic schools, which include the Ancell School of Business, which is present on the west side of the campus. It contains the departments of Accounting, Finance, Management, Management Information Systems, Marketing and Division of Justice and Law Administration. It offers degrees such as Bachelor of Business Administration, Bachelor of Science, Master of Business Administration, Master of Health Administration, Master of Science in Justice Administration, and Paralegal.
The Macricostas School of Arts and Sciences houses thirteen departments containing knowledge on different fields of study. It provides an undergraduate degree in courses such as Communication and Media Arts, English, History and Non-Western Cultures, Philosophy and Humanistic Studies, World Languages and Cultures, Writing, Linguistics, and Creative Process, Psychology and social sciences. The School of Visual and Performing Arts provides various undergraduate courses in Art, Music, and Theatre art. It also has many post-graduate programs in Master of Fine Arts and a Master of Science in Music Education. The School of Professional Studies establishes a firm student-centered education of professional and independent courses under the dominions of under-graduate and post-graduate.
The under-graduate programs are Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education, Bachelor of Science in Health Education, Bachelor of Science in Health Promotion Studies, Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Registered Nursing to Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Bachelor of Arts in Social Work and Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. The post-graduate degrees include Master of Science in Education, Master of Arts in Teaching Secondary Education, Master of Science in Counsellor Education and Master of Science in Nursing. The student-faculty ratio at the university is 12:1.
The entire four schools are divided into two campuses, namely the Midtown Campus and the Westside Campus. The students who prefer to reside within the university premises are given the option of choosing their halls. In the Midtown Campus premise, the students have the following halls, which are Fairfield Hall, Litchfield Hall, and Newbury Hall. In the Westside Campus premises, the following are the available halls, which are Searle Pinney Hall, Centennial Hall, and Ella Grasso Hall. All the halls have their respective desks, bed bunks, closets, and shelves. Every building has separate common rooms and indoor games.
The campus holds two libraries within its territory, namely the Ruth Haas Library and the Robert S. Young Library. The Ruth Haas Library was built in the year of 1969 and was expanded in 2000. Interestingly, this library is open for 82 hours per week for the benefit of students. This massive enlightening structure is situated inside the Midtown Campus. The Robert S. Young Library is found inside the Westside Campus of the University. This library was established in October 1982 and contains information for the departments of accounting, finance, management, marketing, management information systems, and the Division of Justice and Law Administration. The students are also presented with various kinds of opportunities such as student part-time employment means, scholarships, veteran’s benefits, and availability of numerous student loans.
