University of Wisconsin-Madison

Established in 1848, the University of Wisconsin-Madison is an open research university which is known to be the largest and oldest university in Wisconsin. Also, it was the first university to be associated with the UW System. Moreover, the university is in collaboration with the AAU, BTAA, APLU, WUN and the URA. It began its first classes with only seventeen students. Presently, it consists of 45,317 students. In addition, the university is famous for an arboretum that is located within the premises. It is a research and teaching facility and also the historic site of ecological restoration. The site was established in 1932 and is spread across 120 acres of land. Wisconsin University is considered among the founding organizations of the AAU.

The campus is located at the bank of Isthmus Lake. This is the main campus and is spread over an area of 936 acres. It is planned and constructed by Arthur Peabody and JTW Jennings. In 2012, the campus was listed among the most beautiful university campuses in the United States. Some of the notable buildings and halls on the campus include the Bascom Hall, Van Hise Hall, Grainger Hall, Music Hall, Humanities building, Dejope Hall, and the Wisconsin Union Hall. In addition, the university has a radio station within the campus, WSUM 91.7 FM.

The university offers an undergraduate degree program, postgraduate degree program, and doctoral level programs. These programs have various courses that include a wide variety of subjects. The duration of the research program is 4 years and the program is associated with around 13 schools and colleges. The major fields under the degree programs involve engineering, agriculture, education, business, journalism, law, and medical studies. According to a report generated in 2019, around 31,185 students enrolled for the undergraduate degree program. In addition, the university comprises of about 100 research centers and courses in the field of agriculture, arts, and engineering. After being announced as one of the best research universities, Wisconsin is now at position 3rd among the top universities in the state.

Wisconsin University consists of a remarkable list of alumni that include Don Ameche (Academy Award winner), Joseph Anthony (Actor and director), Rick Berman (Film Producer), Tom Hall (Game designer), Paul D Boyer (Nobel Prize in Chemistry), Matthew Hauri (Rapper), Carrie Coon (Actress), Milt Bocek (Former MLB player), Bud Selig (Baseball Commissioner) and Virgil Abloh (Fashion designer).
