After studying the course students will demonstrate mastery in both the practice and broad understanding of major trends and the historical underpinnings, methodologies and techniques of contemporary visual art both orally and in writing
Students will demonstrate and develop critical thinking skills through required coursework and additional self-selected courses within the department and across campus as well as through independent study with individual professors
Students will examine and evaluate specific examples of artistic and academic production as it relates to their area of artistic research
Students will develop and complete original research that advances a field of study in at least one of the broad-based discipline areas represented in the Department of Art
Students will evaluate and interpret professional writing from a variety of disciplines and use this information to develop a theoretical framework for their own artistic research

Bachelors	3.0 GPA Student must have completed 4-year bachelor degree or equivalent; 3-year bachelor degree or equivalent followed by completed master degree; 3-year bachelor degree followed by certain postgraduate diplomas that are either AIU (Association of Indian Universities) or AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education) approved; these postgrad diplomas are all evaluated individually A minimum undergraduate grade-point average (GPA) of 3.00 on the equivalent of the last 60 semester hours (approximately two years of work) or a master's degree with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 is required Students must demonstrate strong academic achievement comparable to a 3.00 for an undergraduate or master's degree
