Lincoln University has established in 1854 as the country’s first degree-granting Historically Black College and University, or HBCU. Initially chartered as Ashmun Institute, it was re-named Lincoln University in 1866 to pay tribute to President Abraham Lincoln. Since the beginning, Lincoln has pulled in an interracial and global enrollment approach from the surrounding community, region, and around the world. The Lincoln-Barnes Visual Arts program is a collaboration between Lincoln University and the Barnes Foundation. It offers a Visual Arts program that leads to a Bachelor of Fine Arts, and recently, a Pan-Africana Studies major has been added to the list of undergrad majors available at the organization. Lincoln University has 105 full-time faculty members and 81% of faculty with a terminal degree. The university maintains a favorable student-faculty ratio of 15:1. Also, 98% of undergraduate classes have 39 or fewer students.
The aim of the Office of Internship Services (OIS) is to engage students in planned, practical, educationally purposeful experiences in professional, work-related settings that relate to or complement students’ academic and career goals. OIS will offer a range of internship experiences fitting for all students served by Lincoln University and for the types of academic, career, or professional programs offered. OIS will be guided by the norms and rules created in the beginning from this office, an advisory group, or a scholastic or academic or student success department.
