Located in the Durham, Ontario, Durham College was originally founded in 1967. At the time of its opening, Durham College had 14 employees teaching 205 students in 15 portable classrooms. It then offered courses in the fields of business, applied arts and technology.
Durham College now offers a wide range of full-time, online, certificate and diploma courses in fields such as media, art, general arts, justice, health, skilled trade and engineering. Apart from the Oshawa branch, there is a campus in Whitby, as well as a learning site in Pickering. In addition, the college organizes cooking, sewing, and beauty and fashion camps.
Durham College has more than 13,600 full-time post-secondary and apprenticeship students, including more than 2,000 international students from over 60 countries. Currently, the college has more than 91000 Alumni around the world. It also has approximately 800 full-time staff and faculty and approximately 1,270 part-time staff and faculty
Also, Durham College operates community employment services in Port Perry, Uxbridge, Oshawa, Beaverton, Port Hope and Bowmanville. Further, Durham College provides on-campus housing options for the students. Also, the college campus has other facilities, including shopping, health care, parking, recreational activities, and food options.
All the campuses have bookstores, fields, ice centres, laptop and study spaces, fitness areas, libraries and lockers. In addition, the Student Association (SA) organizes programmes and events for students of all disciplines. There are several notable personalities who have been associated with Durham College. Jeffrey S. Boyce, who is the President and CEO of Sure Energy Inc., was part of the General Business – Marketing program (1980). Tyler Boyco is an artist, filmmaker and musician who made a portrait of Robin Williams in 2014 that created ripples over the Internet. He was part of the Digital Video Production program, 2014.
