Diablo Valley College was founded in 1949. It was originally known as the East Contra Costa Junior College. It consists of two campuses in Pleasant Hill and San Roman, which are situated in Contra Costa County, California. It offers a wide array of subjects for degrees and certificates including Architecture, Arts, Biology, Astronomy, Chemistry, Culinary Arts, Engineering and many more. It also offers occupational specialties like dental technology and hotel management. It also has a variety of extracurricular activities.
Students participate actively in the debate team. The two campuses are home to over 28,000 students in every term. The Pleasant Hill campus is situated off of Interstate 680; it is 100 acres of rolling hills with a beautiful view of Mt. Diablo. The San Roman campus was established in 2006 November.
According to research done by UCLA’s Center for the Study of Community Colleges, it was seen that the DCV’s rate of transfer to four-year universities is 67% more than the national average. It also has an office for financial aid which offers a wide number of financial aid programs like fee waiver, work-study and grants. It currently has 20,000 students enrolled, of which 50% are females. It has students coming from various ethnicities, making it diverse.
DVC has been recognized as one of the best community colleges in California. It is accredited to the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges & U.S Department of Education and Western Association of Schools and Colleges. Its faculty has highly educated and trained professors who are determined to deliver the best to the students. Its alumni include names like George Miller, Ron Turner, Eva Marie, Julie Strain and many more.
