Clarkson University was established in 1896 and is a national research university. With its main campus in New York, the university prides itself as a front-runner in technological education. It focuses on sustainable economic development using research, innovation, scholarship, and teaching. It offers both graduate and undergraduate programs across all its campuses in Schenectady and Beacon, within New York.
Over the years, Clarkson University has gathered a lot of accolades that it is very proud of. It has accreditations from the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, and Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education, among others.
The university’s main campus is located in Potsdam, New York, and is a 640-acre property. The four resident halls, namely Ross, Cubley, Brooks, and Reynolds, are four-floor accommodation units that have 12 to 25 rooms on every floor. The university has nine dining options for students as well as more than 250 clubs and teams. The institute also pays a lot of attention to sports with teams for baseball, basketball, skiing, hockey, lacrosse, swimming, and many more. The town in which the university is located is based in a small area but has a lot of opportunities for recreation. Students can enjoy hiking, kayaking, skiing, scuba diving, and fishing in the town.
Clarkson offers more than 95 programs in engineering, business, arts, sciences, education, and health professions that lead to bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees, and advanced certificates. There are eight institutes and schools under the university which include the School of Arts and Sciences, Reh School of Business, Lewis School of Health Sciences, Coulter School of Engineering, Beacon Institute for Rivers and Estuaries, Institute for a Sustainable Environment, and Institute for STEM Education and The Clarkson School. The university has 4300 students which also includes international students from 42 states, 63 countries. The student-faculty ratio at the university is 13.6:1.
There have been countless alumni associated with Clarkson University who are now established all over the globe. Some of the notable personalities in the field of sports are hockey player and Adirondack Hockey Hall of Fame – Hugo Belanger, hockey player – Chris Clark, Major League Baseball player – Jack Phillips, Olympian, and hockey player – Craig Conroy and NHL hockey executive – Dave Taylor. In the field of politics, the notable alumni are Francis K. Brooks – majority leader of the Vermont House of Representatives, and Bob Chiarelli – former mayor of Ottawa and German politician. Some of the other personalities are the author of Snort and founder of Sourcefire – Martin Roesch, actor M. Emmet Walsh and New York State Assemblyman – Dan Stec.
