  • The M.A. program includes three tracks, designed to accommodate the different interests and backgrounds of our students. The course requirements differ among the three tracks.
  • In addition to coursework, the M.A. candidates must complete a research component. The research component is written up as a paper and defended by an oral examination.
  • Many of our Ph.D. students obtain an M.A. on their way to the doctoral degree. They have the option to do so after completing the qualifying exams

Bachelors3.0 GPA
  • Applicants must have completed an undergraduate degree from an accredited institution with a program of study in mathematics and a record of achievements that shows strong promise of success in graduate school
  • Applicant must have achieved a 3.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA) in undergraduate studies and a 3.0 GPA in mathematics 
  • A prospective student should have taken courses in mathematics at the undergraduate level in abstract algebra, linear algebra, and advanced calculus or introduction to the analysis
  • Applicants are recommended to take introductory courses in complex analysis, differential equations, and/or topology 
ExamsTOEFL: Accepted
  • With Reading, Listening, and Writing part scores at least 20

IELTS: 6
  • with no part score below 5.5

PTE: 55
  • with no part score below 50

GRE: Accepted
  • The Department does not require the Mathematics Subject GRE. However, applicants may submit their score if they wish
