Yeshiva University

Yeshiva University is a private university that was established in the year 1886. It is the earliest university to offer higher studies in the nation. In the year 1954, it welcomed the Stern College for Women, which is the nation’s first liberal arts college for women under the Jewish aegis. Additionally, in the year 1962, the School of Social Work was renamed Wurzweiler School of Social Work. This university started the Hospital of Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the year 1966, making it the first university-funded hospital in New York City.

The Yeshiva Museum, which holds the Jewish arts and architecture, opened up for the public in the year 1973. Presently, this university offers education in several disciplines, including business, economics, psychology, social work, law, and medicine.

The campuses of this university, namely the Wilf Campus, Israel Henry Beren Campus, the Brookdale Center, and the Jack and Resnick Campus, dwell at four different locations in New York. Each campus provides several amenities to the students, including dining halls, accommodations, and sports facilities. Additionally, this university offers a four-campus library system, which benefits the students by providing them with a range of educational tools and resources. Yeshiva University has an international campus, situated in Israel, and many students spend the first year of their education on this campus.

The Spring 2020 student enrolment of this university measured up to 2,687 undergraduates and 2,651 postgraduates. Yeshiva University offers several academic and need-based scholarships to the students. Additionally, two of the university’s graduate schools offer full fee waiver scholarships to the YU alumni accepted to the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and the school of law. Each scholarship has specific eligibility criteria for them.

Yeshiva University is home to many notable alumni who are now associated with leading organizations. Some of the prominent names include author Chaim Potok, attorney Nicolas Muzin, politician Herbert Tenzer, well-known tycoon David Azrieli, filmmaker Eitan Levine, renowned businessman Max Stern, Nobel Laureate Paul Greengard, and politician Howard Dean. Pulitzer winning novelist Herman Wouk was also a part of this university. He is famously remembered for his work in War and Remembrance, The Canine Mutiny, Youngblood Hawke, and The Winds of War.
