Woodbury University is a non-profit and private establishment. The institution was established in 1884 by entrepreneur and educator F.C. Woodbury. Started as Woodbury’s Business College to grow the Los Angeles’ flourishing business community. The college built its reputation at a rapid rate and was officially certified by the State of California In 1926 to proceed with undergraduate and graduate programs. After becoming a non-profit institute of higher education in 1972, the institution was given the status of Woodbury University in 1974.
Located in Burbank, the core campus is spread over an area of 22 acres in the heart of Los Angeles’ creative market. In addition to it, the institution maintains a smaller campus in the Barrio Logan area of San Diego that offers both undergraduate and graduate architecture programs. Not just this, it also runs WUHO, a storefront gallery region on Hollywood Blvd that offers complimentary exhibitions for the public.
The university is one of the oldest institutes of higher education on the west coast of the US and offers some of the latest facilities to its students. It offers on-campus housing choices to students by maintaining living preferences. Additionally, there are studios, educational support services, a café, computer labs, a campus library, staff offices, a fitness center, basketball courts, and a pool on the campus.
Moreover, there are 3 schools and one college maintained by the university including the School of Media, Culture & Design, The School of Business, School of Architecture, and the College of Liberal Arts. Students are offered 20 undergraduate and 6 graduate professional and liberal arts programs at these schools and colleges. As per the data of 2018, the university had a total population of around 1,165 undergraduate and graduate students, 22% of whom are international students. Furthermore, the standard class size is 15 with a student-to-faculty ratio of 9:1.
Other than this, the university maintains a student-run, national literary magazine called MORIA. Also, students look after their digital magazine called 7500 Magazine that focuses on Los Angeles’s arts, media, and culture. Apart from all this, the university maintains a worldwide alumni network of over 16,000 alumni. Some of the known alumni include Cleo Baldon (Landscape architect), Helen Gurley Brown (Author, publisher, and businesswoman), Richard Denning (Actor), and Lou Kimzey (Magazine editor and publisher).
