Widener University is a private, metropolitan educational institution. Established as The Bullock School for Boys in 1821, the educational institute was built in Wilmington, Delaware. It was known as Pennsylvania Military College after 1892 and received the Widener name in 1972.
Widener University comprises four campuses, the main campus in Chester, Pennsylvania, in addition to the campus in Wilmington, Delaware, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and Exton, Pennsylvania. Students learn in a vibrant community that feels like a second family. Its state-of-the-art facilities include an on-campus television production studio, nursing simulation labs, a finance lab, and modern robotics engineering and computer science facilities. More than 85 percent of the students enjoy on-campus living, choosing between residence halls, fraternities, and sororities.
Widener offers a range of majors and minors. Widener has an undergrad student to faculty ratio of 13:1 with 91% of the full-time faculty have doctorates or the highest degree in their field. All undergraduate students enrolled in Widener University have the chance to procure a Leadership Certificate by going to 18 one-hour workshops and composing a short reflection on the experience. The program started in fall 2013, and from that point onward almost 1,000 students and staff have attended at least one workshop. Driven by Oskin Leadership Institute, the workshops focus on an approach to build student’s character, improve them, make them more involved citizens, and assist them to create positive change in their locale or in the people around them.
After applying in the Widener, students are considered for merit scholarships and grants offered for academic accomplishments, diverse talents, and skills. Widener grants a considerable amount of financial aid to first-time, full-time students with financial need every year. Notably, the average merit grant for a fresh applicant is $105,000 over four years, and for transfers is $17,000 every year.
