Wheaton College

Established in 1860, the origin of Wheaton College can be traced back to the establishment of its predecessor, Illinois Institute, in 1853. It is a private interdenominational Christian liberal arts college recognised by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). It is affiliated to a number of prestigious organisations and institutions such as Illinois Mentor, the Consortium of Liberal Arts Colleges (CLAC) and the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU). The institute also holds the accreditation of various professional bodies like the American Chemical Society (ACS), American Psychological Association (APA) and the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM).

Situated in suburban Wheaton in Illinois, the campus of Wheaton College is spread across an area of over 80 acres not far from downtown Chicago. The world-class campus houses a number of academic, residential and administrative buildings. Located right in the centre of the campus, Blanchard Hall is the institute’s oldest building. Adams Hall is home to the art department and the college’s first gymnasium. Armerding Centre for Music and the Arts includes the Conservatory of Music, which features practice rooms and a recital hall. Todd M. Beamer Centre houses the dining hall, Student Development Offices, Coray Gymnasium, The Stupe and Sam’s Cafe. Billy Graham Centre hosts the Billy Graham Centre Museum and the college’s graduate school. The campus also has other prominent buildings and centres, including Buswell Memorial Library, Chrouser Sports Complex, Meyer Science Centre, Memorial Student Centre, Marion E. Wade Centre, Westgate, Welcome Center, Pierce Chapel, McAlister Hall, Jenks Hall and Edman Chapel.

Wheaton College offers over 40 undergraduate and 18 graduate degree programmes in various areas of sciences and liberal arts. It is home to around 2,900 students from 50 US states and 43 countries across the globe. Over 95% of the college faculty holds a terminal degree in their respective fields. Wheaton College maintains strategic partnerships with several international institutions to facilitate some exceptional international semester and summer programmes. Some prominent partners of the college include Handong Global University in South Korea, Jerusalem University College in Israel, LCC International University in Lithuania, Tokyo Christian University in Japan and Ludwig Maximilians Universität in Munich.

Over the years, Wheaton College has created numerously distinguished, talented and notable graduates. Billy Graham was a prominent American evangelist who is counted amongst the 20th century’s most influential Christian leaders. John Nelson was a popular music director and conductor. Wes Craven was a well-known film director and producer renowned for his creating some amazing horror movies such as ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’, ‘The Last House on the Left’ and ‘Scream’. Dennis Hastert used to serve as the Speaker for the United States House of Representatives. Bart D. Ehrman is an author and creator of six New York Times bestsellers. The college has many other esteemed alumni.
