The Western Kentucky University was founded by the commonwealth of Kentucky in the year 1906. Being a public university located in Bowling Green, Kentucky, the Western Kentucky University offers a wide array of different courses and programs for students who wish to do their undergraduate, postgraduate and even research. Founded by A. W. Mell, the origins of the university go beyond the year 1876. After moving to bowling green in 1884, it was renamed as Southern Normal School and Business College.
Western Kentucky University is divided into 5 different academic colleges, including The College of Education and Behavioral Sciences, The Gordon Ford College of Business, Ogden College of Science and Engineering, Potter College of Arts and Letters and The College of Health and Human Letters. These colleges offer students eighty majors and seventy minors for the bachelors of Engineering, Arts, Fine Arts, Sciences, Interdisciplinary Studies, Science in Nursing, Social Work and Music.
Home to a proud master’s program in folklore, the Western Kentucky University is one of the very few schools in Kentucky that focus on the preservation and exploration of the historical records and traditions of Kentucky and the United States as a whole. The university also introduced a doctoral program for educational leadership, which started back in 2009.
