Wagner is a private college situated in Staten Island in the New York City Area. Associated learning comes through connecting multidisciplinary classes (learning networks), experiential learning, civic education and a strong focus on writing and correspondence. In the main semester, the ‘LC’ connects two required courses around a subject, adds a writing-intensive Reflective Tutorial and includes three hours every week of community-based hands-on work identified with the courses. In the senior year, a capstone LC in the major incorporates 100 hours of hands-on work and a thesis/research into the project. The third LC is taken in the middle years and joins the major with core requirements.
The college offers majors like Theatre and Speech, Sociology, Public Policy, and Administration. Through Learning Communities and Reflective Tutorials led by the committed personnel, one gets a hands-on understanding of the world outside the classroom. Under the Wagner Plan, the student completes a liberal arts core program and a major, totaling 36 units/courses. Total three Learning Communities (LCs) are there — the First-Year Programme, the Intermediate Learning Community and the Senior Learning Community. If a student is admitted to the Honours Programme, courses are intended to stimulate and challenge the student mentally and offer extraordinary academic and co-curricular opportunities. Honors courses are all the more challenging, include more discussion, debate, and require longer and in-depth research papers and oral presentations. The Programme is a subsidiary with the National Collegiate Honours Council.
Wagner College awards merit-based scholarships and grants to students who possess outstanding talent in academics, athletics or performance in either music or theatre. In addition to this, grants and tuition discounts may be available for qualifying students. Wagner College offers institutional grants and discounts to qualifying students to assist with their costs.
