Being founded in the year 1801, Vincennes University is a public university, having its main campus situated in Vincennes, Indiana, the U.S.A. it was originally established as Jefferson Academy.
It is the oldest learning institution for higher studies in the northwestern territory. It is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. In addition to the residential Vincennes campus, the University has a campus at Jasper, Indiana, and major extension sites throughout the state. Indianapolis locations include the International Airport and the Indiana School for the Deaf. Other sites are in Gibson County and in Plainfield, along with a training site in Lebanon. The Vincennes campus also features 7 residence halls housing nearly 1,700 students.
The university offers 19 baccalaureate options in seven bachelor’s degree programs, 138 associate degree programs, and 70 certificate programs. The university is divided into 6 colleges – Business and Public Service, including Homeland Security and Law Enforcement, Humanities, Health Sciences, Mathematics, Science and Engineering, Performing Arts, Social Science and Communications, Technology. The major departments of study are Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources; American Sign Language and Deaf Studies-Interpreter Preparation; Architecture, Construction, and Surveying; Arts, A/V Technology and Communications; Business Management and Administration; Education and Training; Finance; Government and Public Administration; Health Science; Hospitality and Tourism; Human Services; Information Technology; Law, Public Safety, Corrections, and Security; Manufacturing; Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics; Transportation, Distribution and Logistics.
There are several numbers of financial aids available at VU to bridge the gap between the financial resources of the students and the cost of study at this institution. These aids are in the form of grants, scholarships, loans, and work-study programs. There are Summer Aid, FAFSA, FERPA, Accept/Decline Aid, Federal Grants including Pell Grant and SEOG, State Grants including INGSG, 21st Century Scholar’s Grant. The work-study program offers minimum wage for university jobs. A single student is permitted to work not more than 20 hours a week, depending on the eligibility of the candidate.
Apart from the superb academic infrastructure, Vincennes University strives hard for the all-round development of the students. There are Counselling Centres, Disability Services, International Student Affairs, etc. for the benefit of the students. There are also facilities for Continuing Education for the veterans and high school student programs along with Adult Basic Education facility. Work-force development and training programs are also conducted. The athletic division of VU consists of teams playing Basketball, Baseball, Bowling, Cross Country, Golf, Track and Field, and Volleyball.
