Approved by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, Villanova University (VU) is a privately-funded institution of higher education and research in Radnor Township of Pennsylvania. Established in the year 1842 as the Augustinian College of Villanova, the institution was shut down in 1845 only to reopen in 1846. The College gained the authority to award educational degrees in 1848. It was initially an all-male college until 1918 when it started imparting education to nuns through evening classes. The institution was granted university status in 1953. It has affiliations from the Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities, Augustinian Secondary Education Association and the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities. The institution also has a membership in the Philadelphia College Radio Collective.

Villanova University has a 254-acre campus, divided into three sections: Main Campus, West Campus, and the South Campus. The Main Campus features the majority of the academic buildings, administrative offices, recreational spaces, and student support facilities. It is home to the University Library, Student Centre, Athletic Centre, Villanova Chapel, and the Pavilion. Other facilities featured on the campus include a bookstore, stadium, main cafeteria, coffee shops, several eateries, and student residences.

The West Campus is home to the Law School, St. Mary’s Hall, Burns Hall, Picotte Hall, Campus Apartments and eight other residence halls. St. Mary’s Hall houses several classrooms, student dormitories, a large chapel, and a cafeteria. Behind St. Mary’s Hall lie eight buildings of the Campus Apartments, accommodating senior and junior resident students. Apart from this, it has an indoor swimming pool, barbecue pits, soccer fields and courts for tennis, basketball, and volleyball. South Campus has six freshman residence halls, Donohue Market, a cafeteria, barbecue pits and basketball and sand volleyball courts.

Villanova University has four colleges and two schools that offer 61 undergraduate, 58 postgraduate and 14 doctorate programs across different disciplines of liberal arts, sciences, engineering, business, nursing, law, and professional studies. The university also extends a range of certificate courses and joint degrees. Currently, about 10,848 students from 48 states of the U.S. and 41 foreign countries are pursuing their degrees at VU. 53% of the total enrolment consists of female students, while 47% are males. With an average class size of 23 learners, the student-faculty ratio at VU is 11:1.

Fallon (Navy Admiral), Sonia O’Sullivan (Former Trach and Field Athlete), Robert Darretta, Jr. (Johnson & Johnson’s Former CFO), Deirdre Coleman Imus (Author and Health Advocate), John Leroy Hennessy (Computer Scientist, Businessman and Academic), Tim Hauser (Singer), Thomas G. Labrecque (Chase Manhattan Bank’s Former CEO), John G. Drosdic (American Businessman) and David William Rab (Screenwriter and Playwright).
