Recognized by The Higher Learning Commission, the University of Toledo is a public research university in Toledo, Ohio with a current enrolment of 20,500 students. Founded in the year 1872, the university became a member of the state university system in 1967, and presently, it counts as one of the 14 state universities in Ohio. In July 2006, Ohio’s Medical University merged with the University of Toledo to create the third-largest public university-operating budget in the state.
The main university campus has nine residential halls, a Student Recreation Centre, a gothic bell tower, an avant-garde classroom center in one of the buildings, the Memorial Field House, a football stadium, and a basketball and athletic complex. The university’s Health Science campus houses graduate health programs as well as the UT Medical Centre, which offers innovative treatments for cancer and stroke. The UT Medical Centre also features a new Orthopaedics Centre worth $5.8 million.
Toledo University has its athletic team, known by the name ‘Rockets‘, which actively participates in a variety of sports, and play in the Mid-American Conference.
