The University of the Incarnate Word is an impressive institute of learning that is inspired by the Catholic Intellectual Tradition, Judeo-Christian values and Catholic Social Teaching. It welcomes students from different countries. This functions as a private Catholic university which was established in the year 1881 by the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word. Originally, it was chartered as a college for women. It was in the year 2000 that it started offering accredited university degrees in China. This is the university that operates an Incarnate Word High School, all-girls high school along with a co-educational high school and St. Anthony Catholic High School. Moreover, it efficiently operates two elementary schools including St. Anthony’s and St. Peter Prince of the Apostles, through its Brainpower Connection program.
The main campus of the institution is spread across an area of 154 acres and is located in San Antonio and Alamo Heights in Texas. Also, a comfortable learning environment is maintained for students to relax, reflect and learn better. Satellite campuses of the institution are situated in San Antonio and several other places. Before graduating from the university, it is important for all students to volunteer for about 45 hours in the community. The average class size of the university is 23 students and its student to faculty ratio is 11:1. Around 5,827 students constitute the main campus population of the institute. In the total enrolment number of students, about 60 per cent of students are females and 40 per cent are males.
