University of St Mark & St John is usually referred by its trading name, Plymouth Marjon University. Its origin dates back to the establishment of St John’s College in 1840 in Battersea, London and St Mark’s College in 1841 in Chelsea, London. In 1923, these colleges merged to establish a single institution known as the College of St Mark & St John in Chelsea. The institution was moved to Plymouth in 1973. The college achieved affiliation from the University of Exeter in 1991 and received the authority to offer UG and PG programs. In 2007, it obtained the University College status and became the University College Plymouth St Mark & St John. It received the full university status and its current name in 2013.
