Also called USM, The University of Saint Mary is a private university of liberal arts. The university is located in Kansas, United States. The institution of higher education is funded by the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth. The institution was started as a women’s school in 1859. It was elevated to college level in 1923 and later converted into a co-educational school. It became the University of Saint Mary in 2003.
The main campus of the university is home to undergraduate students. It consists of two residence halls and has core educational and administrative offices. The campus houses academic buildings, indoor sports facilities and outdoor playing fields. It offers more than 30 undergraduate, 8 graduate and 1 doctoral programs, including Master of Arts in Psychology, Education, Adaptive Special Education, Master of Business Administration, Counselling Psychology and Teaching. Other than these, it offers online classes of 8 weeks to the students.
The University of Saint Mary is home to more than 1,200 students that are offered education across its two major campuses. The institute works with 31 full-time faculties who manage undergraduate and master programs. The students here represent more than 33 different states. Also, the university offers facilities to international students coming from 8 different nations. The institute maintains a student-faculty ratio of 11:1 in order to provide a healthy learning environment. The campuses include at least 47% male and 53% female students. The university receives more than 400 applications every year on an average. In association with Benedictine College, the university offers an opportunity for its students to study abroad.
Apart from academics, the university boasts of its athletics teams that are known as the Spires. The university student participates in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). There are a number of sports available at the university including basketball, baseball, volleyball, football, softball, wrestling and soccer. The university maintains a good alumni base including people who are now working with leading organizations. Some of the known alumni include Scott Frear (football coach) and Lance Hinson (football coach).
