The University of North Georgia (UNG) is a public university established in 2013 through a merger of North Georgia College & State University, founded in 1873 in Georgia. UNG has four campuses in northeast Georgia. In order to serve the students of the northeast region, UNG has opened an additional campus in 2015 in Blue Ridge, Georgia. The University of North Georgia’s campuses is located in Blue Ridge, Cumming, Watkinsville (Oconee), and Dahlonega, Oakwood (Gainesville). Together, Dahlonega, Oakwood, and Watkinsville campuses occupy 794 acres of land.

 

UNG offers a wide range of opportunities to students from associate degrees to graduate-level programs. The university includes one of the six federally-designated senior military colleges in the US, The Military College of Georgia. Its nationally-recognized Army ROTC program is quite popular in the US.

UNG has earned the Community Engagement Classification from the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and is designated by the University System of Georgia as a State Leadership Institution. The university follows a semester-based academic calendar.

The campus of the University of North Georgia is surrounded by the Chattahoochee National Forest, so, there are lot of opportunities for students to engage in outdoor activities. Also, the campus is located near the Blue Ridge Mountains, so, students have a lot of activities to involve in like hunting, camping, and hiking. With 19,748 students, it is the sixth-largest public university in the state of Georgia. There are five colleges under UNG that offers more than a hundred bachelor’s and associate degrees, one doctoral degree and thirteen master’s degree.

Students at the UNG can participate in the North Georgia Nighthawks varsity sports teams that compete in the NCAA Division II Peach Belt Conference apart from engaging themselves in dozens of campus clubs. UNG is a member of the National Collegiate Honors Council, the Southern Regional Honors Council, and the Georgia Collegiate Honors Council. The university emphasis on teamwork, in-depth learning, and discussion and analysis. Also, the Honors Program classes focus on critical thinking and discussion-based learning.

Undergraduate students are also offered leadership, professional networking, and scholarship opportunities. Students are also offered the chance to represent the university at regional or state Honors conferences. For undergraduates, UNG offers 129 associate and baccalaureate degrees, apart from certificate and pre-professional programs. UNG is the only university in Georgia that provides a minor in leadership.

Some of the programs offered include travel, English and foreign language classes, computer training, photography classes, leadership development, and industry certifications.
