The University of Mount Union situated in Alliance, Ohio is a Private Limited Arts University. The university was established in 1846 by Orville Nelson Hartshorn. The Scio College of Scio, Ohio integrated with Mount Union University and moved its faculty to the university campus in 1911.
The university campus is spread across a vast area of 123 acres. The University is headed by the president W. Richard Merriman, Jr. The university provides free professional programs in Army ROTC, Pre-Professional programs, Pre-Law, Pre-Ministry, and Pre-Health professions (Pre-Medicine). The university provides Masters of Science, Masters of Arts in Educational Leadership, Physician Assistant Studies, and Doctor of Physical Therapy.
Mount Union offers 60 majors and 53 minors of academic coursework in keeping with the liberal arts tradition. Students are encouraged to explore a variety of departments and majors to discover potential talents and interests. Through general education course requirements, students are able to familiarize themselves with a variety of majors and minors. Students are also encouraged to meet their academic departmental adviser, to find guidance in deciding what majors and minors are most advantageous.
The university competes and participates in the NCAA Division III Athletics and in the Ohio Athletic Conference. The university provides varied sports activities for both women and men like volleyball, baseball, wrestling basketball cross country, tennis, football, swimming and diving, golf and soccer for men and volleyball, basketball, tennis, cross country, swimming and diving, golf, softball and soccer for women.
The university’s music program offers participation in numerous bands and choirs, including Concert Choir, Mount Union Alliance Chorale, Opera Workshop, Alliance Symphony Orchestra, Repertory Strings, Marching Band, Jazz Band, Percussion Ensemble, and more. The Theatre Department puts on two productions every fall, and varying productions in the spring.
