The University of Dubuque is a private university which is located in Dubuque in Iowa, United States. It is a Presbyterian university as it has religious affiliations to the Presbyterian Church. The university was founded in 1852 by the Reverend Adrian Van Vliet. He was the German Presbyterian Church’s Pastor. In 1864, the institution was known as The German Theological School of the North West. In 1871, post the death of Rev Adrian Van Vliet, the institution was led by Jacob Conzett.
In 1901, Cornelius Martin Steffens was appointed as the financial secretary. He was a great fundraiser and that had helped the institution a lot. Cornelius Martin Steffens was the president of the institution from 1908 to 1924. In 1907, the institution had shifted to University Avenue. The institution became co-ed in 1911. In 1916, the institution changed its’s name from Dubuque German College and Seminary to Dubuque College. The current president is the Rev Dr. Jeffrey Bullock.
The University of Dubuque has the Heritage Centre on the campus at Dubuque, Iowa. It has the Bisignano Gallery, John, and Alice Butler Hall, A.Y. McDonald Performance Lobby, Babka Black Box Theatre, and American Trust Lounge. The Heritage Centre serves the public, staff, faculty, and the students of the university. The theme of the building is ‘Osmosis’. The Charles C. Myers Library is very well-stocked with books, journals, magazines, periodicals, and research materials. The campus has 3 residence halls. The traditional residence halls are for undergrad students and the other 6 apartment-style buildings are for upper-class students. In 2014, a residence hall known as the Chlapaty Hall had been opened.
