The history of the University of California Santa Barbara (UCSB) dates back to the time when it was Anna Blake School. The school was established in 1891 and offered education in the fields of industrial arts and home economics. The state took over the school in 1909 and changed its name to Santa Barbara State Normal School. In 1921, it was renamed Santa Barbara State Teachers College and started growing its curriculum in the field of liberal arts. In 1944, the institute’s name was changed again to Santa Barbara College of the University of California until it was given its current name in 1958. Currently, the academic structure of the university consists of five schools. It holds the accreditation of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).

UC Santa Barbara is part of the 10-campus University of California system. It is one of the largest and most respected public universities in the world. Located on the cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the university campus is divided into four parts. The east campus is the main part of the university and includes all the academic schools and most of the undergraduate housing. The other three parts are North Campus, West Campus, and Storke Campus. The university has a high-quality infrastructure and provides students with numerous world-class facilities. Apart from the excellent academic amenities, the campus offers facilities for numerous sports like baseball, basketball, soccer, golf, swimming, cross country, tennis, track field, water polo, and volleyball. Other facilities include boating and sailing dock, Robertson Gymnasium, housing and dining services, multi-activity court, and well-being and health services.

UCSB offers over 200 graduate and undergraduate programs in various fields like art, sciences, languages, sports, engineering, philosophy, film, and media, anthropology, social sciences, mathematics, environmental science, and psychology. The university houses over 26,000 students and an outstanding team of qualified and distinguished faculty members. The university operates at a global level and has several collaborations with international institutions. A large population of students comes from foreign countries. The university’s career services put great efforts to enhance students’ employability and provide them with employment opportunities. Amir Abo-Shaer is a MacArthur Foundation “Genius” Award-winning teacher and mechanical engineer. Robert Ballard is a deep-sea explorer who discovered the Titanic. Leroy Chiao is a successful space shuttle astronaut. Michael Douglas is a popular actor and producer who has also been honored with the Academy Award. Harris Faulkner is a well-known TV journalist. Scott Frank is a renowned filmmaker, songwriter, and director. Logan Green is the CEO and co-founder of Lyft. Elizabeth Gabler works as the president of Fox 2000 Pictures. Carol Greider is a Nobel Prize-winner in physiology and medicine. Many other distinguished names are associated with UCSB.
