The University of California, Los Angeles was founded in the year 1919 and is spread across a land of over 419 acres. It is ranked among the top 10 universities for Biological Engineering, Medical, Modern Languages, Chemistry, Literature, Communication and Media studies, Psychology, and Mathematics. It is the second-oldest university, after the University of California, Berkley. UCLA is counted among the best higher educational institutes in the country.
UCLA offers nearly 150 graduate and 125+ undergraduate programs. Over 3,800 courses are provided in 109 academic departments. Its student body includes about 12,828 graduate as well as 31,543 undergraduate students. A number of undergraduate colleges are developed within the campus like School of the Arts and Architecture, Herb Alpert School of Music, and School of Nursing. The University also features the School of Theatre, film, and television, and School of Dentistry. Many Hollywood films were shot in the campus like Old School, Legally bond, Nutty Professor, How High, and American Pie. A famous Bollywood film ‘My Name is Khan’ was also shot here. The university includes a number of graduate schools and programs including highly ranked David Geffen School of Medicine, Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science, and Anderson School of Management.
The sports team of the university is called The Bruins. It has been a participant of NCAA Division I. Most of the competitions are held within the premises like Pauley Pavilion wherein volleyball as well as basketball teams along with women’s gymnastics teams participate. The university has won 261 Olympic Medals along with 118 NCAA championships. UCLA offers 1000 student organizations providing students with multiple opportunities to pursue their interests.
