University of Alaska Fairbanks

Established in 1917, the University of Alaska Fairbanks is a public research university that was opened for classes in 1922. On May 3, 1917, a bill to form an agricultural college and a school for mines was signed by Alaska Territorial Gov. John Strong. Today, the institution has grown to serve and educate the students in more than 100 disciplines. It also receives its funds from the National Science Foundation.

The university houses Six colleges and three schools within its premises currently. They are Community and Technical College, College of Engineering and Mines, College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences, College of Liberal Arts, College of Natural Science and Mathematics, College of Rural and Community Development, School of Management, School of Education and, The Graduate school. It offers the students the opportunities to widen their exposure through Alaska Native Languages, Alaska Native Health Research, Cross-Cultural Studies, Native Studies, and Rural Development, Alaska’s Indigenous Leadership Academy, Native Arts, Rural Human Services and Tribal Management.

The University of Alaska Fairbanks is quite popular in its locality for events such as Festival of Native Arts and Indigenous Peoples Day. The advantage of being a student of this university is that the management not only provides the students with financial aid but also helps them educationally as it aims at rendering a student-centered environment. It organizes a club known as the Student Support Service, where it mentors, tutors, advises, and trains the students to choose the appropriate course for their career and personal growth and success. The university also provides on-campus accommodation for the students in different areas inside the campus. The residential areas are within walking distance from their classes. The students are provided free laundry services and have access to free Wi-Fi.
