The New School

The New School is a private research educational institute. It was established in 1919 as The New School for Social Research, and later came to be known as the New School University. However, from 2006 onwards, the institute has been operating as The New School with five colleges under its aegis, namely Parsons School of Design, College of Performing Arts, Eugene Lang College of Liberal Arts, Schools of Public Engagement, and New School for Social Research.

The institute is located in the heart of New York City’s Greenwich Village. At The New School campus, students can make the most out of avant-garde facilities and resources in any of the institute’s buildings. Besides, the college participates in over 1000 events and programs, workshops, conferences, and seminars annually. The college also arranges for athletic events, intramural sports, and fitness classes for students.

The New School offers 134 degree and diploma programs in the fields of Marketing and Business Management, Global and International Studies, Visual and Performing Arts, Design & Design Studies, Liberal Arts & Sciences, Social Sciences, Media & Communication, and Sustainability and Environmental Studies. The college also offers online programs that are designed to offer a faculty-led, personalized, and collaborative experience focusing on the students’ professional, personal, and academic goals. Online academic programs at The New School include bachelor’s programs in  Media Management, Fashion Management, Media Studies, and Strategic Design and Management.

Internships are an important part of The New School experience. Every year, students at The New School intern at over 1000 organizations. Most of these internships extend for three to six months. Many academic programs at The New School strongly encourage or even require an internship experience, and students can often earn academic credit for an approved internship. Most internships are unpaid, but some are paid or include a stipend for expenses.

The New School Career Services helps students choose the right career field and offers many job opportunities through on-campus recruitment events. It organizes career development workshops, assists in resume writing, and works to impart other necessary skills.

The alumni community of The New School is a network of progressive, creative thinkers, spread across the U.S. and in over 120 countries worldwide. Notable alumni of the university include eminent personalities, such as Tennessee Williams, Shimon Peres, Alexander Wang, Jack Kerouac, and Ai Weiwei.
