The City College of New York

The college is spread over a sprawling 35 acres from Convent Avenue (130th to 141st Streets) in the city of Harlem in Manhattan. The architecture of the college was designed by the renowned architect Goerge B.Post in 1847. The building of the college has the landmark status for its great infrastructure and architect. A wealthy businessman founded the college to provide access to free higher education based on academic merits to the children of immigrants and the poor. It was founded on the lines of other similar institutions in Boston and Philadelphia.

The college has churned about many brilliant minds. The college alumni have been awarded some prestigious awards like the Turing Award, Pulitzer Prize, Fields Medal, and Nobel Prize. Three alumni have got the recognition of becoming Rhodes Scholars. The college offers both undergraduate and postgraduate courses and a series of divisions to have good access to the courses.

Various schools and divisions maintained by the institute include CUNY School of Medicine, The Bernard and Anne Spitzer School of Architecture, The Grove School of Engineering, School of Education, Colin Powell School for Civic and Global Leadership, Division of Interdisciplinary Studies at the Center for Worker Education (CWE), Division of Science, and Division of Humanities and the Arts.

The college offers various courses in language, architecture, science, mathematics, military science, political science, sociology, theatre, media and communication, international studies, history, education, secondary education, computer science, black studies, biology, physics under distinguished departments. It is said to be the only institute that provides ample opportunities for students to participate in research and development programs.
