In 1926, a philanthropist by the name of Ellen Browning Scripps founded Scripps College. The college started taking in transgender women in the year 2014. The motto of the college was taken from New Life by Dante. It is “Incipit Vita Nova”, which in English translates to “Here Begins New Life”. Scripps College is a part of the National Register of Historic Places. Its campus is considered one of the most beautiful in America. The campus is surrounded from all sides by the Claremont Colleges. To the north is the Harvey Mudd College, to the east is the Pitzer College, to the west is the Claremont Graduate University, and to the south is the Pomona College and the Claremont McKenna College. The original campus was styled with inspiration from the Spanish Colonial Revival architecture. Scripps College has olive trees from which award-winning olive oil is made. The campus premises are adorned by the Margaret Fowler Garden, Ruth Chandler Williamson Gallery, and initiatives taken for environmental sustainability. Students have access to fresh pomegranates, loquats, oranges, grapefruits, and kumquats. The campus also has the Keck Science Center, the Robert J. Bernard Field Station, and the Honnold/Mudd Library.

Students can choose from a number of majors and programs offered at the college. The W.M. Keck Science Department of Scripps College, Pitzer College, and Claremont McKenna College gives a chance to students to complete college requirements in science and pursue advanced courses as majors. Students can register with other Claremont Colleges for majors if enrollments fall within the listed guidelines. Pomona College offers Asian Languages, Computer Science, Geology, Linguistics, Russian, and Sociology. Harvey Mudd College offers Computer Science. Claremont McKenna College offers Economics-Accounting. Pitzer College offers Linguistics, Organizational Studies, and Sociology.
