Acknowledging the growing need for business and the demand to study it, J.E. Metzger founded Santa Barbara Business College in 1888. Courses in banking, typing, shorthand, merchandise and business law were offered. The college was known for its employment-focused education and training. It is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools. It later expanded to Bakersfield in Southern California. In recent years, it has started offering online courses and started a new campus in Rancho Mirage. The campus at Bakersfield offers courses in the field of healthcare such as Medical Assisting, Medical Office Administration, Vocational Nursing, and Business.
All the campuses include fully equipped medical labs and computer labs. Classes are limited to a size of 10-12 students. Courses in the Business Administration Programme include Payroll accounting, Financial Accounting, Introduction to Business, Consumer Behaviour and Economics, Professional Resource Development. The fast-track Nursing Program is ranked no. 5 in California. Besides preparing for NCLEX examination, students learn Vital Signs Assessment, Medication Administration, Patient Care and Tracheostomy and Wound Care. The college offers a fast track course in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning. This course spans over 10 months.
International students can stay in campus housing. The college has a tie-up with USH, an organisation that has been providing international students with accommodation since 1988. Students are given assistance with writing resumes and finding jobs.
