Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey was established in the year 1766, is the leading public research institution that is commonly known as Rutgers University. It is among the eighth oldest universities to provide higher education in the US. It was formerly known as the Queen’s College that was later renamed as Rutgers College in honour to Colonel Henry Rutgers in the year 1825. After being recognized as the State University of New Jersey, it evolved as a research university from a liberal arts college by New Jersey Legislature.

The three campuses of Rutgers University are spread throughout New Jersey including New Brunswick campus under the Rutgers’ flagship appointed by the Association of American Universities. It also houses health and medical care division under Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences. The Camden campus is located in the south of New Jersey and the Newark campus in the northern New Jersey are both the leading institution of higher education.

The university houses 50,254 students at his main campus, out of which there are 36,039 undergraduate students and 14,215 professional and graduate students, whereas 27600 students in other three campuses. Enrollment number include 9000+ international students from over 130 countries. The faculty includes 6,000+ staff in about 29 schools and colleges. The university is authorized by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. About 29 schools and colleges offer the students with 150+ undergraduate study programs, 400+ graduate degrees and professional studies with personalized courses for students.

The university offers financial aid and scholarship programs for those who wish to study abroad and it is also home to international students across the world with over 180 study abroad programs. Across all locations, it has 800+ student clubs and organizations and 700+ buildings including 18000+ resident halls beds. It is home to 300+ research centres and institutes and spends $736.8 million annually in research and development expenditures

The university has over 140 alumni groups in the US and across the world. Many have been graduated from the university and are some of the notable people in diverse fields including the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction 2008 winner Junot Diaz, the director of FBI Louis Freeh and in entertainment is the founder of ESPN, Bill Rasmussen.
