Located in Terre Haute, Indiana, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology is a private co-educational college, which specializes in teaching Science, Engineering, and Mathematics. Established by Chauncey Rose along with 9 friends in 1874, the institute is currently headed by President Robert A. Coons.

Rose–Hulman Institute of Technology’s primary focus is undergraduate education and offers graduate studies in eight different programs. The institute’s curriculum focuses mainly on Natural Sciences and Engineering.  The institute’s Software Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Engineering Physics, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Computer Science programs are accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).

The institute is a member of the College Consortium of Western Indiana. This membership allows the students who are full time at their home institute to attend classes at the other member Institute of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College and Indiana State University. The institute is also an institutional member of the American Society for Engineering Education. The institution is a member of the Association of Independent Technological Universities, a group created to further the interests of Private Engineering Schools.

There are eight social fraternities and three social sororities, some of which have their houses on campus, which is spread across a vast area of 1300 acres. Student-centric services such as the Homework Hotline provides free homework help and tutoring to Indiana middle school and high school students. Rose-Hulman Ventures – An annex of the institute serves as a source of internships and job opportunities with startups and established companies of all sizes for Rose students and alumni.

The university has multiple notable alumni which include, Abe Silverstein – American engineer, Tim Cindric – President of Team Penske, Marshall Goldsmith – American coach, Ernest R. Davidson – Author, Art Nehf – Baseball player, Don Lincoln – American physicist, Bernard V. Vonderschmitt – Electrical engineer, Jim Umpleby – CEO of Caterpillar, Lawrence J. Giacoletto – American electrical engineer and Matt Branam – President of the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology among several others.
