Founded in the year 1946, Portland State University is a research-based public university situated in Portland, Oregon. It was originally opened as a post-secondary educational center for the veterans of World War II. It gradually evolved in due course of time and acquired the university status in 1969. The Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education classified the institution as R2 Doctoral university-Higher Research Activity.

The major schools under PSU are Business Administration; Education; Social Work; Urban and Public Affairs; Arts; Engineering and Computer Science; Liberal Arts and Sciences.
