Our Lady of the Lake University

Popularly known as the Lake, Our Lady of the Lake University is a private university, which was founded in 1895 by the Sisters of Divine Providence. The Sisters of the Congregation of Divine Providence is a religious order which was initiated by Blessed John Martin Moye. This religious order is still a sponsoring organisation of the university. After being established, the university has made tremendous changes along the line. In 1923, it became the first San Antonio institution of higher education to receive regional accreditation. In 1942, it began its co-educational graduate studies. By 1969, all its programmes became fully co-educational. In 1986, it began offering Weekend Degree Programmes in its Houston Campus. By 2008, the university began offering these programmes in its Rio Grande Valley as well.

The main residential campus of this university is situated in San Antonio, Texas, U.S. It also has two other campuses in Houston and the Rio Grande Valley. The academic programmes of the university are offered under the five schools and colleges, which are – the College of Arts and Sciences, School of Business and Leadership, College of Professional Studies, Worden School of Social Service and Woolfolk School of Communication Sciences and Disorders. The university also has a number of other centres on the campus such as Mexican American Studies and Research, Service-Learning and Volunteerism and Career Development and Testing. The Lake University offers undergraduate, masters and doctoral programmes. Under undergraduate courses, the university offers programmes such as Accounting, Anthropology, Biology, Biomathematics, Business, Chemistry, Chemical Biology, Child Studies, Communication Sciences and Disorders, Computer Information Systems and Security, Criminology and Criminal Justice, Cultural Studies, Drama, Economics, Education-Teacher Preparation, English, Finance, Forensic Science, History, Individualized, Kinesiology, Management, Mass Communication, Mathematics, Mexican American Studies, Multidisciplinary Studies and Research, Music, Organizational Leadership, Public Health, Social Transformation, Social Work – BSW and Sociology.

Under master’s courses, the university offers programmes such as Accounting, BBA-MBA, Communication Sciences and Disorders, Counselling, English: Literature, Creative Writing and Social Justice Information Systems and Security, Master of Education, Non-profit Management, Organizational Leadership, School Psychology, Social Work – MSW, Sociology and Special Education. It also offers doctoral programmes in the field of Leadership Studies, Psychology: Counselling Psychology – PsyD and Social Work – PhD. The university also offers a number of enrichment programmes such as McNair Scholars Programme, Honors Programme, Biliterate Certificate Programme, Double Majoring, Accelerated Bachelor’s to Master’s, Wings up Summer Tuition Grant
