The Alabama Legislature had established 12 community colleges during the time of George Wallace’s administration. The year was 1963 and one of the 12 colleges was the Northeast Alabama Community College (NACC). The first class of NACC had 380 students. The college had opened its doors to students on 30th September 1965. It was under President Ernest Rudder Knox at that moment. Initially, the college was following the quarter system and a general education curriculum in liberal arts. In 1982, Charles M. Pendley had become the President. In 1998, Northeast Alabama Community College had shifted to the semester system. In 2001, the current president, David Campbell and taken over the position.
The college is situated on the border between Jackson DeKalb counties. It falls partially in the town of Powell. The colours of the college are Blue and White. The campus covers around 118 acres. Their mascot is known as Mustang. The college is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The campus of Northeast Alabama Community College includes various buildings dedicated to departments, administrative business, and learning centers. There is the Annex, Harry Campbell Building, English Building, William M. Beck Health and Fine Arts Building, Health Education and Technology Center, Industry Training Center, Industrial Systems Technology Center, E.R. Knox Science Building, Cecil B. Word Learning Resources Center, Tom Bevill Lyceum, Math, Science, and Engineering Technology Building, Student Center, Salon Institute at 105 Liberty Lane (Scottsboro), Social Science and Technology Center, George C. Wallace Administration Building, and Workforce Development Building.
Northeast Alabama Community College’s Business and Computer Science Division has the Business Department, Computer Science Department, Office Administration Department, and the App Development with Apple Swift. The English and Fine Arts Division has the departments of English, Art, Child Development, Theatre, and Music. This division also provides the College Transfer Program that enables students to pursue degrees like Associate in General Education, Associate in Arts, or Associate in Science. The Natural Sciences Division includes Biology, Chemistry, Health, Physical Education, and Physical Science.
The college provides Associate in Art Degrees in Art History, English, Art Studio, General or Pre-Liberal Arts, Music, and Theatre. Associate in Science degrees are offered in Accounting, Agribusiness Economics, Applied Mathematics, Biomedical Sciences, Clinical Laboratory Sciences, Chemistry, Computer Science, Criminal Justice, Athletic Training, Animal Sciences, and Building Science. Educational degrees are provided in Mathematics, General Science, History, Chemistry, Spanish, Music, Business, and Art. It also offers Aerospace, Biomedical, Biosystems, Chemical, Industrial, Materials, and Electrical engineering programs.
Associate in Applied Science degrees are offered in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration, Child Development, Drafting and Design Technology, Electrical and Instrumentation, Machine Tool Technology, Industrial Systems Technology, Engineering Technician, and Emergency Medical Services. Certificate programs offered at the college include subjects like Additive Manufacturing, Paramedic, Mechanical Maintenance, Therapeutic Massage, Skilled Maintenance Technician, Technical Drawing, and Solid Modeling. Short-term certificate programs are provided in General Education, Carpentry (Level 1 and 2), Child Development, Computer Graphics and Web Design, Office Technology Support, Culinary Arts, Cybersecurity, and Salon and Spa Management. Randy Owen, a famous country music singer is a notable alumnus of the Northeast Alabama Community College.
