NewSchool of Architecture and Design is a leading private-for-profit college in San Diego, California, that specializes in Design and Architecture courses. In the year 1980, the late Richard Welsh established the institute with a vision of introducing professional academic programmes culminating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture. Growth and change followed in 1988, as the school relocated to Central Downtown San Diego and introduced other degree programmes in architecture, including Master of Science in Architecture, Associate of Arts and Master of Architecture. In 2014, the WASC Senior College and University Commission awarded the institute regional accreditation.
In 2016, the National Architectural Accrediting Board granted an 8-year re-accreditation to NewSchool for its First Professional Degree, First Professional Degree, Master of Architecture, and Bachelor of Architecture. In addition to these, the NewSchool curriculum features other degree courses in Product Design, Interior Design & Architecture, Media Design and Design Studies. The Centre for Academic and Student Success at NewSchool offers services and programmes to enhance the learning experience of all students in an engaging and welcoming environment. The centre offers faculty and peer tutoring services, including English Language Program, International Student Advocacy Office and Disability Access. Sprawling over an area of 100,000 sq ft, the NewSchool campus is situated at East Village in San Diego Downtown. TThe Career Services Office at NewSchool introduces the much-important concept of career management to students with the objective of encouraging them to develop a relationship with the department. It offers students many opportunities to engage with industry professionals through various events like lectures, career fairs, interviews, networking, mentorship programmes, and internships. For students currently pursuing studies at NewSchool, the department retains a blog section on Alumni Job and Part-Time Job, which highlights career opportunities. In addition to this, a Full-Time Job-Newsletter highlighting current market trends and job openings posted by the network of recruiters is sent every week to students who have recently graduated.
NewSchool of Architecture and Design strives to make graduate schools and colleges affordable for students by offering scholarships and financial aid. The institute offers scholarship worth $1 million every year. It also operates financial aid programmes for domestic graduate and undergraduate students.
