Murray State University

Murray State University is a public university situated in Murray, Kentucky in the United States. The university operates many campuses, including the main campus in Calloway County and others in Paducah, Madisonville, and Hopkinsville along with Henderson which offer graduate and upper-level courses. The university was founded in 1922 and they have an endowment of 83.2 million U.S. dollars for the financial year of 2018. There is 406 academic staff at the university.

The university is also known as MSU and there are 9,466 students for the fall of 2018. The number of undergraduates is 8,142 and the number of postgraduates is 1,324 both for the fall of 2018. The campus is as big as 258.43 acres for the main campus. The university was established after the passing of Senate Bill 14 by that of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky which led to the creation of two normal schools in the earlier part of the 20th century so as to address the growth in demands for teachers as professionals.

MSU is offering 11 associate, 42 masters and specialist with 64 bachelor programs that are being administered through 4 of the academic colleges, 30 departments, 2 schools and 1 joint program that is being shared by the College of Science, Engineering and Technology and the College of Business. The College of Business is the biggest in Murray State that has enrolled twenty-three percent of the students who are part of undergraduate courses. It has been seen that the students who are from outside of the country are usually very active on the campus. There are events planned throughout the year that lead the students to teach others about their culture that is their religion, politics, and food.

The university has been providing English as a second language program or ESL so that international students are assisted in the same in case there is a language barrier. The program usually provides English-speaking, reading, listening and writing instructions while they teach the students about the culture of America. There are many notable alumni, including Dustin Lee Howard (Class of 2011) who is an independent professional wrestler known as “Chuck Taylor” or “Chuckie T” and W. Earl Brown who is an actor. There are many athletes also who are part of the alumni such as Ja Morant who is an NBA player with the Memphis Grizzlies; Shane Andrus who is the placekicker for that of the NFL’s Indianapolis Colts, San Fransisco 49ers, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
