Commonly known as Mississippi State University, Mississippi State University for Agriculture and Applied Science is a land-grant, public research university situated in Starkville, Mississippi. It was established in 1878. The institution bears its academic affiliation under APLU and is classified as an R1 Doctoral University with High Research University.

The schools and colleges under the university are College of Agriculture and Life Sciences; College of Architecture Art and Design; College of Arts and Sciences; College of Business; Richard C. Adkerson School of Accountancy; College of Education; James Worth Bagley College of Engineering; Dave C. Swalm School of Chemical Engineering; Shackhouls Honours College; College of Forest Resources; College of Veterinary Medicine; and School of Human Sciences.

MSU conducts baccalaureate, master, and doctoral degrees in over 175 programs. The chief academic departments include Agriculture and Life Sciences; Architecture, Art and Design, Arts and Sciences; Business, Education; English; Engineering; Forest Resources; Honours; and Veterinary. The students of MSU can avail of the financial aid facilities provided by the university. These aids come in the form of scholarships, grants, and loans. There are Children of Fallen Hero Scholarship; Federal Pell Grant; Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant; Federal Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education; Federal Work-Study; Federal Direct Student Loan Programs. Apart from these, there are State Student Financial Aid, Mississippi State Promise Program, and Alternative Loans.

The basic academic infrastructure of the university is second to none with state of the art labs, libraries, faculty members, teaching methods, high-tech classrooms, halls, and auditoriums. There are a varied number of student clubs and organizations based on a wide range of interests to get the students actively involved in campus activities. They are Greek Life communities with fraternities and sororities; lyceum series, pageants, dance marathon, music maker productions, and union art gallery.

MSU maintains 16 varsity sports teams for both men and women. The men’s sports include baseball, basketball, football, golf, tennis, track, and field. The women’s sports include basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, track and field, and volleyball. The club sports include men’s ice hockey, tactical airsoft, fencing, women’s and men’s volleyball, table tennis, aikido, yoga, men’s and women’s soccer, etc.
