McMurry University is a private university which was founded as a United Methodist establishment in 1923. The university is located in Abilene, Texas and offers education in liberal arts. It is a nationally recognised university that provides a vibrant and complete centre for undergraduate education. It maintains a solid reputation when it comes to offering valuable and quality education as well as counting achievements of its graduates, present students and faculty. Itis officially certified with the Texas Education Agency, the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Also, it is associated with the University Senate of the United Methodist Church and the National League for Nursing.
The university campus is spread over an area of 52 acres and offers numerous educational and non-educational facilities to students and staff. It enrols more than 1,140 students and has a standard class size of 16. Almost 91% of our teaching staff are highly skilled and have attained the highest degree in their educational discipline including doctorate programmes. Also, the university maintains a faculty to student ratio of 1:13. Moreover, McMurry University houses a good number of Methodist students with 95 per cent of Texan students. Other than this, 98 per cent of freshman students are offered some monetary support. The university allows students to choose from 45 majors in a number of areas including business education, arts and the sciences. Additionally, it provides 9 pre-professional programs in law, pharmacy, medicine, engineering, dentistry, physical therapy and others.
Other than this, students are given opportunities to explore a subject apart from their stream with a three-week May term programme. Also, the Servant Leadership Program is offered to students so that they can develop leadership skills and learn about ethics. Moreover, the university maintains around 40 organizations and clubs to involve students in various activities. There are 20 types of sports which can be explored by the students. Moreover, it has maintained a rich alumni base in these past years. The university boasts of 10,500 (approx.) alumni who are now working and living in 11 countries and different states. V. O. Key, Jr. (political scientist), Antonio Solis (federal judge) Grant Teaff, ex-head football coach) and Dick Compton (NFL player) are some of the notable alumni of McMurry University.
