Marquette University

Marquette University is located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. This is a private Jesuit research university that was established on August 28th, 1881. The founder of the college was John Martin Henni who was the first Bishop of Milwaukee. The university has 1,200 academic staff members along with 11,600 students. The number of undergraduates is 8,400 with 3,200 being postgraduates. It offers opportunities for sports like basketball, lacrosse, soccer, volleyball, etc. The university was established by the Society of Jesus.

Marquette University was named after the 17th-century missionary and explorer Father Jacques Marquette, SJ who built the college with the sole intention of providing affordable Catholic education to the emerging German immigrant population of the area. It was the first co-educational Catholic university in the world in 1909 when it started admitting women. The university is accredited to the Higher Learning Commission. It is one of the largest Jesuit universities in the United States and the biggest private university in Wisconsin. The university has over 68 master’s degrees and doctoral programs.

It is the only dental school in the state and offers 22 graduate certificate programs. The university offers many programs in subjects like liberal arts, law, engineering, education, and communication. The university’s varsity athletic teams are known as the Golden eagles who are the members of the Big East Conference and compete in the NCAA’s Division I in all sports. Marquette University includes 11 colleges and schools, namely the Helen Way Klingler College of Arts and Sciences, J. William and Mary Diederich College of Communication.

In the year 2015, Marquette was ranked 84th overall among the national research universities offering undergraduate courses by U.S News and World Report. Forbes had ranked the university 83rd among the research universities and 157th overall in the year 2016. The notable members of the faculty include Charles B. Schudson who is one of the judges of Wisconsin Court of Appeals and John A. Decker who is the Chief Judge of the Wisconsin Court of appeals.
