Lubbock Christian University was established in the year 1957 by the members of the Churches of Christ. It was founded with the objective to establish a Christian university that can prepare and equip students for lives of Christian service. This is a private Christian university that is associated with the Churches of Christ and is situated in Lubbock in Texas. It is in the fall of 1987 that it gained the status of a university. The university is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award bachelor level, master level and associate degrees to the students. LCU is known to have one of the ‘greenest’ campuses in the country.
The campus life featured by the university is enriched with all the facilities and activities needed for an engaging and growing learning environment. There are housing and dining facilities for the convenience of the students. Even medical services are available at the time of crisis. Time and again, several interesting activities are organised by clubs and groups to ensure the overall development of the students when it comes to learning. Also, students get to choose from 25 plus student organisations and 13 plus intramural sports when it comes to recreation and relaxation. Some of the fields in which undergraduate degrees are offered by the institution include Business, Music, Nursing, Natural Sciences, Humanities, Business and Biblical Studies. According to the 2015 statistics, the university witnessed an enrolment of 1958 students out of which 462 were graduate students. Apart from being known for imparting quality education to its students, the university is famed for its notable alumni network which is constituted by several distinguished personalities. These include President of Southern Methodist University R. Gerald Turner, baseball coach Matt Martin, singers on The Lawrence Welk Show, The Otwell Twins, musician and actor Marvin Lee Aday, attorney and sixth LCU president L. Timothy Perrin and many others.
