Loyalist College

Loyalist College gets its name from the United Empire Loyalists and reflects its settlement in the area where the college was founded. The college was established in 1967 at Belleville, in Ontario, Canada. This public college was founded to increase the number of institutions that could provide career-oriented courses to the people of Ontario.

The college’s operations were carried out at a local school in the beginning. Loyalist College is officially known as the Loyalist College of Applied Arts and Technology. The present 200-acre campus of the college is located on Wallbridge-Loyalist Road. It has been in use since 1968. Loyalist College has another campus in Bancroft, Ontario. The campus has state-of-the-art labs, classrooms and workshops. It also has the Bay of Quinte Skills Centre, Digital Media Center, Student Access Labs, Student Spaces, Health Centre, Spa, Library, Bioscience Labs, Renovated Northumberland Wing, Student Centre, Fitness Centre, Dining Hall, Campus Bookstore and Conference Facilities.

The residence of Loyalist College has 5 buildings that house around 474 students. 4 townhouse blocks house approximately 112 students. The Residence Commons has laundry facilities, security office, entertainment area, computer access and food station. The entertainment area has a television, ping pong tables and pool tables for the students’ use.

Loyalist College provides Post-Secondary Programmes, College Access Programmes, Apprenticeships, Justice Studies, Skilled Trades and Technology, Media Studies, Health and Human Studies, Training and Certification Services, Postgraduate Programmes, General Education Courses and Motorcycle Training. Current athletic teams in Loyalist College are Men’s Volleyball, Women’s Volleyball, Men’s Basketball, Women’s Basketball, Men’s Rugby, Women’s Soccer and Cross-country.

Notable alumni and faculty include Former Morning Host of FM Erin Davis, Former MPP for Prince Edward- Hastings Ernie Parsons, MP for Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock Jamie Schmale, MPP for Edward-Hastings Todd Smith, MPP for Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock Laurie Scott and former MLA for Argyle-Barrington the Honourable Chris.
