Lethbridge College

Lethbridge College, previously known as Lethbridge Community College, was opened in 1957. This was the first college founded by the public for the community within Canada. The college is a part of the Alberta Rural Development Network. The college is affiliated to ACCC, CCAA, AACTI, and CBIE. The college offers preparatory studies, training related to vacations and programs for university transfer in over 50 career fields that can come with one-year certificate, two-year diploma, bachelor’s degree, and apprenticeship programs.

The college has transfer agreements with other universities like that of the University of Alberta, University of Calgary and Athabasca University. There are many departments in the university among which notable are Academic advising, Alumni Engagement, Buchanan Library, Centre for Applied Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Financial Aid and Student Awards, Residence Life, Wellness Services, etc. The main campus of the college is in Lethbridge and the college also has regional campuses in Claresholm, Vulcan County, and Crowsnest Pass.

The college offers preparatory studies, university transfer programs and vocational training in 50 different fields. This will lead to a one-year certificate, a two-year diploma, bachelor’s degree, and apprenticeship programs. The college provides applied Bachelor’s degrees and also has transfer agreements with the University of Alberta, University of Calgary, Athabasca University and the University of Lethbridge for the students who want to transfer and/or continue their studies with the bachelor’s degree. The college participates in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference.

Also, the college maintains men’s and women’s teams in sports like soccer, basketball, golf, cross country running and volleyball. The teams are known as the Kodiaks. The cross country team of the men won the 2006 ACAC Championship, and the National Championship. The team of the women won the National titles in 2003 and 2004. The basketball team featuring the women won the ACAC gold medal for the second time in 4 years, by defeating the defending champion Mount Royal College 67-59. The university won the Bronze medal at the 2006 Canadian Colleges Athletic Association National Championships in Cornwall, Ontario where they had beaten Okanagan Lakers 79-77. The college has a media organization that is called Lethbridge Campus Media. It is operated by the second-year students in the Digital Communications and Media Program.
