Established in the year 1965, Lake Area Technical Institute (LATI) is situated in the Watertown Area, South Dakota. The institute is focused on the in-depth study of several courses in the technical field. It is a public university that was previously known as Lake Area Vocational Technical School. It is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.
The institute offers study programs in Agriculture; Automotive Technology; Aviation; Building Trades Technology; Business Associate; Community Healthcare Worker; Computer Information Systems; Cosmetology; Custom Paint and Fabrication; Dental Assisting; Diesel Technology; and Electronic Systems Technology. Also, it provides programs in areas, such as Energy Operations; Energy Technology; Environmental Technology; Financial Services; Heavy Equipment Operator; High Performance Engine Machining; Human Services Technician; Law Enforcement; Med/Fire Rescue; Medical Assisting; Medical Lab Technician; Nursing-LPN; Nursing-RN; Occupational Therapy Assistant; Physical Therapist Assistant; Precision Machining; Robotics; and Welding Technology.
The institute operates 30 programs (of which 13 are online e-degrees) with a total enrolment of, 2,500+ students. It holds a record of more than 22,000 graduates. Also, 99% of LATI’s graduates are either employed or engaged in higher education. The course structure of the institution enables its students to exercise the knowledge gained through hands on training programs. Further, there are 2 prime scholarship quotas in the university, namely Foundation Scholarships and Build Dakota Scholarship Fund. The eligibility criteria depend on academic performance, for both national and international students. There is also Merit Award Program.
