Named after the explorer James Cook, James Cook University is a public university from North Queensland, Australia. The university started accepting the students in the year 1961, under the University of Queensland. James Cook University became an independent university in the year 1970 and is the second oldest university in Australia. JCU offers undergraduate, postgraduate, online, short-term, and pathway courses.
The College of Arts, Society, and Education offers Bachelor of Education and Master of Education in multiple specialisations, Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts and also a Bachelor of Social Work and Master of Social Work. Each sub-department also has diploma and pathway programmes. The College of Business Law and Governance has a Bachelor of Laws, Bachelor of Science in Law, and multiple MBA programmes and diploma courses. The College of Science and Engineering has seven specialisations under which undergraduate, graduate, and diploma courses are offered. Students can study Engineering, Environmental Management, Geoscience, Information Technology, Marine Biology and Aquaculture, Physical Sciences and Zoology, and Ecology.
James Cook University has three campuses in Cairnes and Townsville of Australia and Singapore. The Townsville campus is the main campus and also the largest. It boasts of 11,500 students, out of which 1,500 are international. The Townsville campus also has three affiliated colleges: Saints Catholic College, Saints Mark’s College, and The John Flynn College. JCU’s Cairnes campus has 4,000 of the total university student population. The Singapore campus was established in the year 2003.
