Hofstra University is a well-established private institution of education which is located in Hempstead in New York. Founded in the year 1935, it is the largest private university of Long Island. It was established as an extension of New York University but became independent in the year 1939. It began to be recognized as a university in 1963. With over 10 schools including the Deane School of Law and Northwell School of Medicine, it is the institution which is noted for a series of well-known Presidential conferences and several presidential debates of the United States. Hofstra University was ranked 140th as per the 2019 National Universities rankings given by U.S. News & World Report. The campus of the university is spread across 244 acres and houses around 117 buildings.
The campus is around 7 miles from the Borough of Queens and offers a chance to see the entire city of New York from the tenth floor of its library. It has around 35 residence halls that house about 3,500 students, 220 plus student clubs, 18 eateries and 6 theatres. Also, the university has a vibrant campus as a number of social, cultural and academic events are organized every now and then. The libraries of the university provide round the clock online access to 100,000 plus full-text journals along with 200,000 electronic books.
Hofstra University is accredited in a total of 32 areas including 28 academic areas. It offers about 160 undergraduate level and 170 graduate-level programs. The university’s Office for Research and Sponsored Programs is known for assisting faculty and others to enrich the education and research endeavours of the institution. Even a great program, Faculty Research Day, is organized at the fall semester’s beginning to limelight the achievements in research and performance of faculty members. There are over 3,381 faculty members, 11, 2490 students in total and 6913 undergraduates in the university. In the 2018 Fall, it witnessed an enrolment of 10, 871 students out of which 6701 were undergraduates, 2898 were graduates, 853 were from law and 410 from medicine.
