Harding University was established in 1924 as a senior college, when two junior colleges, namely Arkansas Christian College and Harper College, merged to form Harding College. The name of the college has been inspired by James A. Harding, co-founder and first president of Nashville. He was a teacher and preacher of Christian education.
Harding University is located in a community called Searcy, Arkansas. Notably, the largest private university in Arkansas is the Harding University, which is associated with the Churches of Christ. The university consists of around 4,879 students representing 49 states and 55 nations and territories. There are about 370 well-qualified faculty members out of whom 255 members hold a Ph.D. or other terminal degree. The motto of the university is the Community of Mission. Further, their mission is to provide a quality education that will help develop an understanding and philosophy of life that is consistent with Christian ideals. The campus spreads in 350 acres and accommodates about 47 buildings.
Harding offers 10 undergraduate degrees in more than 100 academic majors, 14 preprofessional programs, and 21 graduate and professional degrees in its colleges of Allied Health, Arts and Humanities, Bible and Ministry, Business Administration, Education, Honors, Nursing, Pharmacy, and Sciences.
The College of Allied Health was established in the year 2011. It provides high-quality instruction and meaningful experiences in professions relating to health care. The College of Arts & Humanities nurtures students who are interested in analysis and problem-solving. The College of Bible & Ministry helps students learn about Christianity and understand and serve the world of God. The Paul R. Carter College of Business Administration prepares business professionals. The Cannon-Clary College of Education is dedicated to equip and sustain professional learners to enable and inspire those they serve. The Carr College of Nursing provides training for professional nursing. The College of Pharmacy undertakes to graduate pharmacists who ensure optimal medication therapy outcomes. The College of Science offers study programs in Behavioral Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, etc. The Honors College is dedicated to developing the intellectual standards, independent thought, and logical analysis of students while building their faith in God.
The university has many set goals, including the development of Christian scholarship, the promotion of Christian ethics, the promotion of citizenship within a global perspective, etc. The university sponsors student-led social clubs that help in social networking and interaction among students. It is also a member of the Great American Conference, NCAA Division II. More than 365 athletes compete in 18 intercollegiate sports offered at Harding.
Among the notable alumni are Kyle Brice, a supervisory special agent for the U.S. Department of Treasury, and Capt. Ryan Scott, an active-duty Army officer.
