Green River Community College

In 1945, Green River Community College had begun as a program devoted to adult evening education. It was then a part of the Auburn school district. In 1963, the school had gotten approval to become a community college. In September 1964, the college had started professional and technical programs. Initially, the school was situated near the Auburn Boeing Plant. It had later been relocated to Lea Hill. In 2014, Green River Community College changed its name to Green River College.

The main campus of Green River Community College is situated in Auburn’s Lea Hill neighborhood. It was founded in 1965. The Lea Hill campus is sprawled across 180 acres of beautifully forested land. There is another campus at the Auburn Center. It caters to the needs of the Auburn community and the surrounding areas. This campus houses both credit and non-credit classes of Adult Basic Education (ABE), Aviation Technology (AVIA), Center of Excellence for Careers in Education (COE), Continuing Education (CE), English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), Small Business Assistance Center (SBAC) and Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC), Software Development (IT), Transitional Studies (TS), Washington Certification Services (WCS), and Washington Environmental Training Center (WETRC).

The third campus of Green River Community College is called the Kent Campus. This campus is situated at 417 Ramsay Way. The Kent Campus provides credit classes for Bachelor of Applied Science in Marketing and Entrepreneurship, Associates Degrees, Professional Education, Pre-College and Basic Classes, Job Skills Training, no-cost Small Business Counseling, Customized Training, Community and Continuing Education classes in Computers, Business, and Technology.

The fourth campus is known as the Enumclaw Campus. It is situated at 1414 Griffin Avenue. The instructional programs offered at this campus include Credit Core Classes, Community Education Classes and Personal Development, Running Start/Co-Hort Program for High School Students, Adult Basic Education, GED, Business and Career Education, Self-Paced Lab Classes, and eLearning.

The notable alumni of Green River Community College includes American poet, critic and screenwriter Tony Tost, major league baseball player David Riske, president of the National Collegiate Athletic Association Mark Emmert, Ph.D., Filipino-American professional basketball player Avery Scharer, American soccer coach and former player Pete Fewing, American politician of the Republican Party Randi Becker, American writer, singer, filmmaker Philip Lindholm, American politician Linda Trujillo, Soccer player Eric Storkson, and former American Soccer player Kathy Ridgewell-Williams
